Facebook Ads Cost in Sri Lanka: What You Really Pay For

“How much is Facebook boosting?” has no one-line answer, because there is no price list. Facebook does not sell advertising at a fixed rate. You decide how much to spend, and Facebook shows your advert to as many of the right people as that money reaches.
What Facebook ads cost in Sri Lanka therefore comes in two parts: the advertising budget, which is yours to set, and the fee of whoever sets the campaign up and looks after it. This guide explains both, shows what a customer’s message cost in thirteen campaigns we have run since 2023, and sets out how to plan a first budget without wasting it.
The two costs of a Facebook campaign
| What it is | Who decides the amount | |
|---|---|---|
| The advertising budget | The money that pays Facebook to show your advert | You |
| The management fee | The charge for setting the campaign up and looking after it | The agency or person you hire; nothing if you do it yourself |
At GIXEZ IT the fee is LKR 2,000 for each campaign. It is charged once for the whole campaign, not for each day. It covers:
- setting the campaign up for your market segment
- monitoring it while it runs
- optimising it to increase its reach
- regular updates on how the advert is performing
Your advertising budget is paid on top of the fee, and you choose how much it is. A four-day campaign at LKR 2,000 a day, for example, is LKR 8,000 of advertising and our LKR 2,000 fee: LKR 10,000 in all. That sum, budget plus fee, is the whole of your Facebook ads cost. GIXEZ IT’s prices are exclusive of VAT.
Three things about how this works with GIXEZ IT:
- You pay us, and we pay Facebook. You pay GIXEZ IT the advertising budget as well as the fee, so you do not pay Facebook yourself.
- Changes are part of the campaign. If the advert or its audience is changed while the campaign runs, that does not count as a new campaign.
- We recommend at least LKR 2,000 a day, for at least four days. That makes LKR 8,000 of advertising the smallest campaign we suggest.
How Facebook charges for adverts
Facebook’s advertising works as an auction, not a rate card:
- You set a budget, either an amount for each day or a total for the whole campaign.
- Facebook spends it showing your advert to people in the audience you chose. Over the life of the campaign it keeps to the budget you set; on a single day it may spend a little more or less than the daily amount.
- What that budget buys is not fixed. Many advertisers want the same people’s attention, and the price of reaching them moves with the audience, the time of year and how many people respond to the advert itself.
This is why two businesses can spend the same amount and get different results. An advert that people stop to look at reaches more of them for the same money.
What campaigns have really cost
Most guides to Facebook advertising quote a cost per click without saying where it comes from. These figures are from GIXEZ IT’s own advertising account: every campaign we ran between September 2023 and September 2026 that was set up to bring messages. A “conversation” is one person who started a message to the business from the advert. Facebook bills the account in US dollars, so the figures are in dollars, as Facebook reports them.
| For clients | For GIXEZ IT itself | |
|---|---|---|
| Campaigns | 11 | 2 |
| Spent on advertising | USD 248.75 | USD 75.61 |
| Conversations started | 1,032 | 88 |
| Cost of one conversation, on average | USD 0.24 | USD 0.86 |
| Cheapest and dearest campaign, per conversation | USD 0.10 to USD 0.41 | USD 0.80 and USD 1.05 |
What the figures show:
- A campaign does not have to be large. The client campaigns spent between USD 8 and USD 40 each. Those whose dates we can tell ran for five to seven days, on about USD 4 a day where a daily budget was set. That is less than we recommend today.
- Each one reached thousands of people. Between about 6,800 and 28,000 people saw each client campaign, and between 45 and 151 of them started a conversation.
- The same money buys different things for different businesses. Our own adverts, for web development and for email, cost three to four times as much for each conversation as our clients’ adverts for their products.
- Likes are cheaper than conversations, and worth less. One campaign was set up to win followers for a page. It brought 642 likes for USD 31.28, about five cents each. A like is not an enquiry.
Two cautions. A conversation is not a sale: what happens after the first message is up to the business. And these are past results from one account, not a forecast for yours.
Boosting a post or running an ads campaign?
Both are Facebook advertising. They differ in how much you can control.
| Boosting a post | An ads campaign | |
|---|---|---|
| What is shown | A post that is already on your page | An advert made for the purpose |
| Where you start | The “Boost” button on the post | Facebook’s Ads Manager |
| Control over who sees it and what they are asked to do | Basic | Detailed |
- Boosting is the quickest way to put a post in front of more people than already follow your page. It suits an announcement: a new product, an offer for the weekend, an event.
- An ads campaign lets you choose who sees the advert by where they live, their age and what they are interested in, and what you want them to do: send a message, visit your website, watch a video.
The budget is yours to set either way, so Facebook boosting cost in Sri Lanka is whatever you decide to spend. What changes is how carefully the money can be aimed. Meta, the company that owns Facebook, describes boosted posts in its own help centre.
Where your advert appears
A Facebook campaign is not limited to Facebook. The same company owns Instagram and Messenger, and an advert set up in one place can be shown in all three. That is useful if your customers are on Instagram more than on Facebook: one budget covers both.
How to plan a first budget
There is no right amount, but there is a sensible way to choose one.
- Decide what one result is worth. If a new customer is worth LKR 5,000 to you, a campaign that brings two has paid for a LKR 10,000 budget. If you cannot say what a result is worth, start there.
- Work out how many conversations become customers. If one message in ten ends in a sale, a sale costs you ten conversations. The table above shows what a conversation has cost.
- Start small and treat it as a test. The first campaign tells you what reaching your audience costs. Spend an amount you can afford to learn from.
- Change one thing at a time. If the first advert does poorly, change the picture or the offer before you raise the budget. More money behind a weak advert buys more of the same.
- Give people somewhere to go. An advert that leads to a page with your prices and a way to contact you does more than one that leads nowhere. If you do not have that page, see our web design packages.
- Count enquiries, not likes. Messages, calls and orders are what the budget is for.
Four ways a budget is wasted
- An audience that is too wide. An advert for a salon in Panadura shown to the whole island pays to reach people who will never come. Aim at the towns you actually serve.
- No clear offer. “We are open” gives nobody a reason to act today. A price, a date or a limited offer does.
- Nowhere to go. If the advert leads to a page with no prices and no phone number, the money brought a visitor and then lost them.
- Nobody watching. A campaign left alone keeps spending on an advert that is not working. This is the part of the work a management fee pays for.
How to read the results
A report on a campaign uses a few words that are worth knowing:
- Reach is the number of people who saw the advert at least once.
- Impressions is the number of times it was shown. One person can see it several times, so this is always the larger number.
- Results are whatever the campaign was set up to get: messages, visits to your website, video views.
- Cost per result is the money spent divided by the results. It is the figure to compare between campaigns, because it tells you what one enquiry cost.
With GIXEZ IT you get regular updates on how the advert is performing while the campaign runs, so you do not have to wait until the budget is gone to find out.
What you need before you start
- A Facebook page for the business, with its phone number and address filled in
- One clear thing to promote: a product, an offer, an event or the business itself
- A good photo or a short video. It is what people see first.
- A way to answer quickly. A message left unanswered is an enquiry lost.
Promoting a video on YouTube
The same two costs apply to YouTube. GIXEZ IT’s fee for a YouTube video promotion is also LKR 2,000 for each campaign, and the advertising budget is yours to set. It suits a business that already has a video worth showing to more people.
Questions about Facebook ads cost in Sri Lanka
Is there a fixed price for boosting a post in Sri Lanka?
No. Facebook has no price list. You choose a budget, and Facebook shows the post to as many people as that budget reaches. If someone runs the campaign for you, their fee is separate: at GIXEZ IT it is LKR 2,000 for each campaign.
What does one enquiry from Facebook cost in Sri Lanka?
In the thirteen message campaigns GIXEZ IT ran between September 2023 and September 2026, a conversation with a customer cost USD 0.29 on average: from USD 0.10 in the cheapest campaign to USD 1.05 in the dearest. What it costs you depends on what you sell and who you show it to.
What is the smallest budget for a Facebook campaign?
We recommend at least LKR 2,000 a day, for at least four days: LKR 8,000 of advertising. Our LKR 2,000 fee is charged once for the whole campaign, whatever its length.
Do I pay Facebook myself?
Not with GIXEZ IT. You pay us the advertising budget and our fee, and we pay Facebook.
Does a bigger budget always mean better results?
No. A bigger budget shows the advert to more people. Whether they respond depends on the advert and on who it is shown to. Improve those first.
Can I run Facebook ads myself?
Yes. Anyone with a business page can boost a post. What you pay a fee for is the setting up, the watching and the adjusting: choosing the audience, checking how the advert performs while it runs, and changing what is not working.
What is the difference between a campaign’s budget and its fee?
The budget goes to Facebook and pays for the advert being shown. The fee pays the people who run the campaign for you. With GIXEZ IT the fee is LKR 2,000 for each campaign and the budget is whatever you choose.
Should I send people to WhatsApp or to my website?
Send them where their question is answered fastest. For something simple, such as an offer or a booking, a message is quick. For something people compare before they buy, a page with prices and details does more of the work for you.
