An online shop costs more to build than a website that only presents a business, because it has to take orders and payments. It also goes on costing a little while it sells: a share of each card payment goes to the company that processes it.

This guide gives the e-commerce website price in Sri Lanka at GIXEZ IT, says what the price includes and what it leaves out, and adds up what a shop costs in its first year and in the years after. Every figure is a published one, with the day it was read.

The e-commerce website price in Sri Lanka, in short

  • LKR 186,000 for our E-Commerce package, ready in 15 days.
  • The domain name and the hosting are free for the first year, with a security certificate and ten email accounts.
  • Card payments are built in. The payment gateway charges its own fee on each payment, which goes to the gateway, not to us.
  • All prices are exclusive of VAT.
  • 50% is paid when the project starts. The remaining 50% can be paid in instalments or based on milestones.

What LKR 186,000 includes

The package is the same for every shop. Grouped by what each part does:

The shop itself

  • Unlimited pages and unlimited products
  • Payment gateway integration, so customers can pay by card
  • Sales pop-ups and live chat support integration
  • Links to your social networks, and social media integrations
  • A build that is search engine friendly, and submission to the search engines

The design

  • UI prototyping: you see the layout before it is built
  • A design that works on phones, tablets and computers
  • A banner or slider, and a photo and video gallery

Your shop's address and its hosting

  • A .com or .lk domain name, free for the first year
  • 12 GB of hosting with unlimited bandwidth, free for the first year
  • A security certificate (SSL), the padlock beside the address
  • Ten 1 GB email accounts at your own domain, such as orders@yourshop.lk

And for as long as the shop runs

  • A training session, so that you can update the shop yourself
  • Lifetime maintenance: updates to the content, to the web server and for security. It does not cover changes to the design.

If you are choosing between packages, the web design price guide sets the E-Commerce package beside our two smaller ones.

What the price does not include

Four costs sit outside the build price. Ask about each before you compare quotes.

  • The payment gateway's fees. A share of each card payment, and on some plans a monthly fee. You pay them to the gateway. The next sections give real figures.
  • Delivery. Couriers charge for each parcel, usually by weight. The shop can add your delivery charge at checkout; the courier's rates are agreed between you and the courier.
  • Product photographs and descriptions. Clear photographs matter as much as the design. They come from you, or from a photographer you hire.
  • VAT, on our price and on the gateway's.

What a shop costs in its first year and after

The build is paid once. A few things are renewed every year, and the card fees follow your sales.

So a shop costs LKR 186,000 to build, and from LKR 17,500 a year to keep online from its second year, before card fees and VAT. The cost of hosting depends on the type of project, and a shop with many products and pictures needs more space than a small website.

Card fees, worked out for one month

Say your shop sells LKR 150,000 a month by card. PayHere, a Sri Lankan payment gateway, publishes these plans:

PayHere planMonthly feeFee on each payment
LiteNone3.30%
PlusLKR 3,9902.99%
PremiumLKR 9,9902.69%

On Lite, LKR 150,000 of sales costs LKR 4,950 in fees that month, or LKR 59,400 over a year. The fee is a cost of selling, like the courier: it grows with your sales, and it is only paid when something sells.

Each plan has limits. Lite takes payments of up to LKR 50,000 each and LKR 200,000 a month, so a shop that sells more moves to Plus, which takes up to LKR 3,000,000 a month. Premium has no monthly limit, and it costs less than Plus once sales pass about LKR 2,000,000 a month. American Express cards cost 0.5% more, and payments in a foreign currency 1.0% more. These are PayHere's figures as published on 19 October 2026; other gateways price differently. WebXPay, for one, charges a yearly subscription for its Starter package, Rs.10,000 for 12 months, and 3.80% on each local Visa or Mastercard payment.

What a gateway will check on your shop

A gateway approves your business before it lets you take payments. PayHere's own guidance says a website must be complete and selling real products, and must show its terms, a return policy, a privacy policy and the business's contact details. A shop under construction, or one with sample products, is rejected. Plan those pages into the shop from the start, so the approval does not hold up your opening day.

What changes the price of an online shop

Our E-Commerce package has one price whatever you sell. A shop moves beyond it when it has to do something a standard shop does not:

  • It has to work with a system you already use, such as the POS in your store or a stock and billing system.
  • It needs work done for you in the background. For Logos Publications, an Australian publisher, we built a WooCommerce plugin of its own that matches each card payout to the orders in it, a task its accounts team had done by hand.
  • Every order is made to measure, so a price can only be given after a conversation.

Work of the first two kinds goes beyond the package: describe it to us and we send you an estimate, as we do for a web application. The third may not need a shop at all.

A shop, or a website that takes enquiries?

Not every business that sells online needs a basket and a checkout.

  • When customers can choose and pay alone, a shop pays for itself. C&D International, a Sri Lankan manufacturer of fibre optic and network products, has a WooCommerce shop we built in which customers browse a large technical catalogue and buy in Sri Lankan rupees.
  • When every order is made to measure, a shop gets in the way. Bamboo Blinds Store makes each blind to its customer's window, so its website asks for a quote, a callback or an appointment instead of a payment.
  • When you sell a few items through Facebook or WhatsApp, a payment link may be enough at first. PayHere, for example, lets you take a card payment by sending a link, with no website at all.
